Baby Safety
Posted on: August 31, 2011
Parents worry endlessly about how to protect their children from stranger abduction and violence, but many overlook one of the biggest threats to their children's safety and well-being — their own home. Experts say that children between the ages of 1 and 4 are more likely to be killed by fire, burns, drowning, choking, poisoning or falls, than by a stranger's violence.
About 2.5 million children are injured or killed each year by dangers right in their own home, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). That's why it's so important to carefully childproof a home.http://www.babycenter.com/0_childproofing-around-the-house_460.bc/
Latest figures suggest over 50% of parents still don't know enough basic first aid to save their child's life.
In this interview, TV GP Dr Hilary Jones talks about the research, and also the launch of a brand new safety campaign -- The Tesco Baby & Toddler 'Babysafe' seminars supported by The Royal Life Saving Society UK.
The idea is to give parents the basic skills and hands on experience on how to cope with an accident or crisis with a child at home.
Precautions
Do not place any objects around the baby bed or crib when the baby is asleep- not even a blanket or pillow. Also be sure of the place where you keep the bed or crib, there should not be any objects that could be risky for the kid. The suspended toys should be affixed properly to the crib.
Take utmost care while bathing the baby or giving her a massage. Check the water temperature first, and then get the baby for the bath. Do not place the baby at the bed corners, and do not place the bassinets, Moses baskets or strollers at heights, on stairs or other risky places unattended.
For kids older than three months old, they may try to roll off or move a little ahead by themselves. This is a phase where you need to to be extra observant.
In case of driving, make sure the car seat is properly fixed, and have read the instructions properly, in order to ensure the baby always has a safe travel. http://www.babywiseguides.com/how-to-reduce-risks-injuries-in-0-4-months-olds/
